This Problem is not mission critical here, but it kept coming at me (at night). Anyway this is hopefully useful for others in some way, as its to complex for very little gain in my case ... I can fake a similar material with Fresnel colors and some falloff / or even thin film hacks.

If anybody wonders, the Scan (gradient) is from an X-Rite Material Scanner (TAC) which normally has a proprietary file format.

But it seems you made something. I am not sure how to "lookup" the color value in my texture but it seems possible.

OSL MatCap Shader does this in a Spherical manner anyway ...

I have a material Properties from a real world material Scan, which represents two different values represented in two gradients X and Y which result in a lookup table I assume. The gradient of the sample is a color shift of "albedo" depending on viewing / light direction.

Is it possible to program a node / Shader for C4D and or Redshift to behave like this. Or is the light direction camera position an Chicken / eg problem that can not be solved outside the core of C4D ?

The question is general because I lack Shader Programing knowledge.
If this thread should be in General feel free to move it.

Just additional reinforcement.

We talk here a lot of Metadata in CAD files for Digital Twins, so a universal handling of "additional" data not processed by cinema is an area to explore at Maxon !

Thanks for your quick summary of the pitfalls of this problem. While it is good to know that scripts get dynamical IDs, in my opinion it might juts be more reasonable to create small plugins for each script to insert them Properly.

I do not fully understand the goal with the black center, why not always have two(left / right) red dots as pivot axis ?
Even though it might be clunky, have you tried to prototype your concept in X-Presso ? or even mechanical rigging. There was a good Maxon (by Noseman) tutorial on youtube a few weeks ago.

I spent one year going your route and had a very computational expensive ray caster - but 5 years ago there was no c4d.utils.ViewportSelect.PickObject as far as i know.

anyway I think the accuracy is depended on your viewport - try a separate view in "Fullscreen" to check ....

Hint: I found a solution to render the image and select from that.

I do not understand your setup entirely but still ->
Just a hunch of an old bug/limitation

1. close the picture viewer
2. adjust the scene
3. re-render in picture viewer

before R20 this was a thing ...
that no xpresso and similar things did not update with picture viewer open/active ...

as said this is just a hunch ...

Have you tried different priority settings of the tag ?

The second is not a c4d.CallCommand but an c4d.utils.SendModelingCommand comand

Just an idea,

• get the tag (loop through all the tags)
• loop trough all parameters (don't know how have to research)
• check for bitactive (problem might be that numbersfields ans so on can be inactive even if the user placed its cursor ....)

My question: why the hussle, perhaps outline your need more on a practical example ....

you use the same ID for each row I guess, in your code above you would need to ofset every row by a certain amount for the IDs

I can not give you a working code from your snippet.

self.selectedEntry = 1000 + offset

Since the update to 2023.2 c4d suddenly reports python 3.10

is this a bug or did I miss something?

To be clear I do not know which version is truly current I just get the version umber for some old depreatted syntax for R20 but still my code breaks hence of

New in version 3.2 -> fromstring() is renamed to frombytes() for clarity.

this wasn't an issue before 2023.2 ...
