Is there a plugin for Cinema 4D that supports Windows OLE drag and drop? In short, what I want to do is drag a file from explorer and drop in/on to Cinema's main display. I hope i am making sense. thank you for any help and please forgive the noob question.

You want to write a Plugin (in C++) that accepts dragged files? In a drag&drop context you can check if the recieved objects have the type: DRAGTYPE_FILES
In the cinema4dsdk folder you can find some examples how to implement drag &drop.

maybe a SceneLoaderData-Plugin is what you want. The identity function lets you specify which files are supported

What sort of file? Because you can already drag and drop certain files from windows explorer into C4D's viewport - .c4d and .obj files can be dropped into any view, or bitmaps can be dropped into the orthagonal views and will automatically appear as background images. Or you can drop a bitmap into the material manager and C4D will create a new material for it.
TBH I'm guessing that any file Cinema knows how to handle can be drag and dropped into the viewports without plugins.

Is there one available?

This may help. This is a reply back from a developer who created PzDB.
"
Me >have you heard of a product called Interposer Pro?
Developer> Actually, we hadn't. Now we have it. It appears to be a cinema four D plugin, written within their plugin language. It allows drag and drop but only from its own window. That isn't the same as using standard Windows drag and drop, which is what we use. (technically they call that "simulated drag and drop" because it isn't true Windows (OLE) Drag-and-Drop)
Now if you know of a C4D plugin that enables standard Windows drag and drop, meaning you can drop a file from Windows Explorer into C4D, then we've got something."If you are not familiar with the product PzDB, here is a link. http://www.rocketshipsoftware.com/pzdb/default.asp
This is one tool I consider most invaluable. Basically, I can see ALL 3D file types with an image and I can sort/tag/search by any parameter. What I can do is take the "file" and drag and drop into either Poser/3DMax/Vue and it will load the file. I hope I am making this clear.

No, that is not what I am getting at. Please forgive me because I feel that I am not communicating what I want correctly. I am not asking to open a DAZ/Poser/Max file in C4D. I know you can drag and drop files supported by C4D into the viewport and it will open the file. I will include a copy of the email sent to me by Rocketship. They are trying to incorporate C4D into their apps function. Here follows their communication:
Hello Dallas,
The actual question we were hoping to answer was "how many of our beta testers use C4D?" which we did.
We are experimenting with adding support for Cinema 4D to PZDB, although at this time it seems our support for it will have to be rather limited. C4d doesn't support windows drag and drop, and while it does have internal "library" of sorts, there doesn't seem to be anything in there that we can index.
So about all we can do is index C4D files themselves and display them as generic document icons. You will be able to launch them by double clicking, but that is about it. That level of support will be included in the next PzDB release which will be going out to beta testers as soon as we have a stable build to send you.
As a Cinema 4D user, and you have any specific ideas as to how PzDB and C4D can interoperate? We'd like to hear them.
Update:From PzDB
Yes you are absolutely right. I should apologize, I was mistaken. That is Windows standard (OLE) drag and drop. I'm not sure what I was doing wrong that first time when I thought that it wasn't supported.
In Cinema 4D you can drag and drop C4D files, OBJ files Collada files, FBX files etc, each one is opened as a new document. That's how Cinema 4D support windows drag and drop. That's very similar to the way Carrara supports drag and drop. On the other hand, in Vue and 3ds, when you drag and drop files they are imported into the current document. It all depends on how the program responds to drag and drop event. The good news is you can do all of that from PzDB right now (except C4D files, but that will be the next build).
Now if you want greater functionality than that, like the ability to drag and drop items into the current document or import CR2 files, or drag and drop a pose onto a figure, then I guess you want a plug in a similar to Interposer, but will allow you to drag and drop from Windows.
Whatever you can do from windows, you can do from PZDB. I hope that explains a little bit better. -

I still can't quite see what the problem is, I'm afraid. PZDB seems to be an interface to an Access database, which allows you to index all your Poser content and drag and drop it into Poser. Very valuable - Poser users tend to accumulate gigabytes of content, so I'm sure they find this useful.
Your main wishes appear to be that C4D files can be dragged and dropped into the current document rather than create a new one. True, C4D always opens a new document if you d&d; from explorer/finder. But is that really such a big problem? C4D has the content browser - which is much more than an internal library 'of sorts', BTW - and that gives you the sorting and indexing functions for C4D files. Plus, objects and materials can be dragged and dropped from the browser into the current C4D document.
The developer you mention will never be able to index C4D files in the same way as Poser files because the file format is closed. Same would apply to Max files. As far as loading Poser content into C4D is concerned, you won't get, or need, anything better than Interposer. Whether Interposer can or could be made to support d&d; for Poser files I don't know, but Robert (the developer) is frequently here on this forum - why not ask him directly?

InterPoser Pro supports drag-and-drop of Poser scene files (extension 'pz3' or 'pzz') from the OS/File manager into C4D. But this opens a new scene document in C4D. The way that the SceneLoader plugin works is odd. You have to specify a flag on registration of the plugin (which you can't change on the fly) which allows merging or not. I suppose that one could allow it and then the user could be prompted to open in a new scene or merge with the active one.
For particular types of Poser files, d&d may be difficult to work with. Pose type files would require an existing scene with Poser content of the right type selected to receive the pose or nothing will happen (or it will be applied inappropriately). Additionally, the Runtime reference would be lost for any library content using d&d. But it is probably just as simple as how I do it from the Runtime Explorer.

Remember that Cinema 4D is a cross-platform application (Windows, MacOS, Linux). It does what most cross-platform solutions do and abstract support at the expense of platform-dependent support. With C4D, you can integrate the platform support for the most part but you are at peril of conflict, crash, and conflagration. C4D already has built-in drag-and-drop support for files into its interface and that is cross-platform. You limit yourself by using platform-dependencies (except where absolutely required such as in Filesystem support and such).

Is there a way to view the libd4 files outside of Cinemas interface? For example, some libd4 files have embedded in them actual jpeg texture files that I wish I could pull into a paint program and change. Or is there a way to extract the information in a libd4 file?
Edit: I just found out that if I save the project, all files including the tif files are there so I can access and change them. I apologize for such a dumb question.
