Hello community,
as some of you have already noticed, a new SDK support team as started to work in here.
We are still sorting our resources and try to gain speed in order to lift off as soon as we can. That being said, we'd like to request your help:
If you have any suggestions, on what we can do or should rather not do, in order to improve your overall "comfyness" in this forum. Please leave us a short note.
Surely we will do some things differently than before. Some things by thought, others by accident. If there are things, that annoy you, please leave us a small note as well. Of course we don't mind heads up notes either.
In our current state we are kind of... let's say it C4D terms... sculptable, so it might be a good time to place your comments.
So long,
Andreas, in the name your new SDK support team -

Hi,
Where do we leave this "note"?
In this thread? Or someplace else?-ScottA

For me, it would be fine in this thread.
You could also PM me, if it should stay more private.
Actually I wanted to make this an announcement rather than a thread, but I somehow did not...
Will look into it later. -

First thing to do IMO, please install some up-to-date forum software. The current forum is, frankly, dreadful and seriously obsolete. It's a fair bit of work but if you're going to do it, do it now rather than later. Whatever forum you choose, remember that the search function is critically important, so that should be a major criterion.

You are absolutely right, Steve.
Taking the time for suggestions is much appreciated. We are aware of this and it is being worked on (and you even found polite words for the current situation , not everybody would have).
As you already noted, this is not done as quickly as said. We want to make sure to have the old content available in the new place.Regarding the search functionality we are entirely in common as well. Here we are currently discussing and evaluating options, which may even go beyond a search function. These may take even more time to implement, but they won't block the forum relaunch, rather would be integrated later on.
I currently can't tell, when to expect a relaunch of the forum. I simply don't know, but it is being worked on with pressure. As soon as I have good news, I'll post them, promised.
Before the forum gets restarted, you'll most likely notice a refreshed Plugin Cafe landing page.
This is being worked on as well. With the new SDK Support team we basically try to address a bunch of problems in parallel. The Plugin Cafe's web appearance, the overall support for developers and the SDK documentation itself (you surely noted Yannick working on it). A lot is going on behind behind the scenes, I can't talk about just yet... I just hope, we get this right and to your complete satisfaction. That's what we'll strive for in the future.
For now, I think, MAXON has heard your (not only you as person, Steve) cries. Sometimes it's just hard to get the resources needed to begin with long needed changes. I hope, the presence of a new team with several people working solely on these issues, can spend at least some hope.

What I would really like to see is an SDK feature request subforum to place wishes for API extensions.

Hi Katachi,
actually internally we are already having such a list.
While you can always send us your wishes via mail, we think it would be best to post such requests directly in the SDK Help or Python subforums. In this way, these wishes can be discussed by the community and maybe we also have solutions or workarounds, that are not immediately obvious to everybody. -

Hmm, not sure I fully understand Andreas. First off you could also discuss these in a specific subforum. You could even post solutions or workarounds. The big extra would be that we had all requests stuffed together in one place and not somewhere in the archives of a general help forum.
However, I would have more thought of such a subforum not being open for discussion. I mean either a functionality is available in the API or not. I would only expect an answer if there already IS such a function call available.
If I was looking for actual practical code help to achieve a certain functionality I would use the SDK help forum, but if I wanted to have a certain to have an operator[] overloaded I would post an API feature request instead. Sure this is a bad example but I guess you know what I mean...I hope

Hi Katachi,
please don't get the feeling, that we don't value your idea. Quite the opposite is true actually. Internally we are discussing a whole bunch of options, how to (re-)organize and improve our support work. Introducing more subforums is only one of them. Until we haven't made up our minds, we'd like to ask you to use the existing subforums... and for your patience of course.
