Being an individual and not a business conglomerate :), I'd like to invest in software for "machine translation" (e.g: Systran or Magellan) as human translation services would be extravagantly beyond my means. For my last project, I was able to cull several translators by giving a free commercial/registered version of my software in exchange. Now, this worked to a point, but I never had Italian or Japanese translations and some of the others took some time (it was a large document). Addenda were not translated and the burden on these good-will translators is too much.
As I have several plugin projects in the works, it would be better if I could create foreign language documents without either of these dependencies (cash or spare-time). Now, I already have a user base with every language that needs to be translated, so it would not go to waste. But, most critiques of "MT" software is that the results are basically draft-quality requiring editing (sort of like most OCR).
Any recommendations or other thoughts?
Thanks!
